Our story

A studio, in Montréal

ZeynLabs is a small design studio in Montréal. We make geometric parametric light sculptures whose defining feature is the shadow they cast. The fixture is the instrument — the shadow is the art.

Parametric design as a craft

Our practice sits between design and mathematics. Each piece begins as a parametric composition — a family of possible geometries, tuned to the room it will live in. We draw on traditions where light and pattern were the whole point: the zellige tilework of Fez, the mashrabiya screens of Cairo, the tessellation of Andalusian courtyards. We're not borrowing symbols. We're reading the geometry.

Made here, made to last

Every fixture is made to order in our Montréal studio. We choose materials for durability and finish — components that will outlast a rental, a renovation, a decade. Local production keeps our supply chain short and lets us build one piece at a time, by hand.

Sustainability, honestly

We don't overstate this. Making everything to order means nothing sits in a warehouse. Our materials are chosen to be repairable. Our packaging is minimal and, where possible, recycled. We're a small studio — we do what a small studio can do.

A slow catalogue

The Studio Collection stays intentionally small — ten pieces at any time. If a piece doesn't earn its place, we retire it. Everything else is custom: we'd rather make one fixture for your dining room than a thousand for nobody in particular.
